Villages on Paros
Other Villages on Paros
Lefkes
This village in the center of the island is the most traditional one, and was the medieval
island capital, with its heydey from the 17the century onward, when it was the main town during
the Ottoman period. A hill village with red-tile roofs on some of the houses it has some nice
streets, some with marble paving stones, a nice church square, and a traditional bakery; the
church of Aghia Triadha has carved marble towers. One can walk to Lefkes from the old
agricultural town of Prodromos along the famous Byzantine Road, paved with marble for most of
its length of 4 km/2.5 miles. This popular hike is only one of several on old Paros roads; there
are trail maps for sale at the Foreign |Press Agency in Parikia.
Kostos
To the north of Lefkes, on the same main road that crosses the island from Parikia, Kostos
is another fairly simple village.
